10.03.2016 Sergey Lavrov’s greeting to the organisers and participations of the Ninth European Russian Forum
Over the past few years, your meetings have become a respected platform for discussing a wide range of issues on the European agenda. In the current tense situation, your efforts are especially important for maintaining trust and mutual understanding on our large continent.
Russia and the European Union are not going through the best of times in their history. But we believe that we can reverse the negative trend and resume our multifaceted partnership, especially because the current challenges and threats, primarily an unprecedented growth of international terrorism, call for uniting our efforts on a solid foundation of international law. Of course, this calls for abandoning the faulty logic of unilateral actions and attempts to create new dividing lines.
We are interested in developing constructive cooperation based on equality and respect for each other’s interests with anyone who is willing to do this, including our European partners. We continue to advocate the creation of a zone of economic and cultural cooperation based on the architecture of equal and indivisible security from the Atlantic to the Pacific coast. We expect the forum participants, many of whom know the situation in their home countries and in Russia very well, to promote this initiative.
I wish you productive work and all the best.
