Not long ago we sent appeals to various human rights organisations which work in the human rights field. We informed these organisations about a new set of amendments to the Immigration Law of Latvia which concern those citizens of the Russian Federation who were either citizens or non-citizens of Latvia before.
We have already received the first responses and reactions to our appeals. For instance, we have received a response from the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities. He informed us that he has made a decision to prioritize this problem and undertake active steps to prevent an immigration catastrophe in Latvia.
We keep on working with international organisations. We hope that it will bear fruit and consequently help those people who are affected by the changes to the law.
Besides, we carry out regular consultations in the matters regarding residence permits. We also take active part in the work of the Saeima commissions by tabling our proposals and amendments.
