THE RIGA CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERS DESTRUCTION OF THE MEMORY TO BE MORE IMPORTANT THAN UNDERTAKEN INTERNATIONAL OBLIGATIONS

On September 30th Inna Djeri and Vladimir Buzaev received the decision taken by the UN Human Rights Committee with regard to their communication demanding to halt the destruction of the two monuments on the banks of the Kisezero and of the monument in Rumbula.
On October 6th, Vladimir Buzaev submitted to the Riga City Council the request to implement the decision taken by the UN Human Rights Committee. He also referred to the attitude demonstrated by the authorities of Vilnius (Lithuania) which decided to comply with a similar decision by the UN Human Rights Committee. Inna Djeri supported the request.
However, the Riga City Council did not use their chance to voluntarily implement the decision taken by the inter-governmental organization, therefore demonstrating their irresponsibility and unwillingness to cooperate at the international level. The Council deputies confirmed with their votes that they see destruction of history and memory as their primary duty.
