{"id":1496,"date":"2023-01-17T23:57:38","date_gmt":"2023-01-17T21:57:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rusojuz.lv\/en\/?p=1496"},"modified":"2023-01-17T23:58:56","modified_gmt":"2023-01-17T21:58:56","slug":"will-democracy-bring-to-a-dictatorship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rusojuz.lv\/en\/will-democracy-bring-to-a-dictatorship\/","title":{"rendered":"WILL DEMOCRACY BRING TO A DICTATORSHIP?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It seems that the right to freedom of expression and prohibition of discrimination <strong>on grounds of<\/strong> <strong>political opinion<\/strong> is not more protected in the EU.<\/p>\n<p>My country, Latvia, is often formally praised for including citizen\u2019s initiatives in the legislative process.<\/p>\n<p>But what if initiators are proposing to deprive a large category of citizens of the rights guaranteed in the EU Fundamental Rights Charter?<\/p>\n<p>Latvian Parliament began the new legislative year by moving forward initiative to deprive so-called \u201cKremlin-minded people\u201d of the right to stand for elections and to take posts in the state and local government institutions.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to <strong>political prisoners<\/strong>, whose number is constantly growing in Latvia (almost all of them are journalists), <strong>political disqualified<\/strong> will appear in the country.<\/p>\n<p>How the people whom the petitioners call <strong>harmful or not loyal to the State<\/strong> shall be <strong>&#8220;appointed&#8221;<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p>Most likely, as it happened in Latvia in the times of deportations, on the basis of <strong>denunciations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shall we allow those times to return?<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It seems that the right to freedom of expression and prohibition of discrimination on grounds of political opinion is not more protected in the EU.
